Transport of goods by sea is much more environmentally friendly than other transportation methods used or known today, but the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has agreed to stricter future rules to reduce average carbon intensity as well as to cut total emissions by at least 50% by the year 2050 compared to the year 2008 emission levels.
Therefore, our entire fleet will together with our technical ship management partners be optimised and upgraded to comply with all relevant regulations, and also for being able to achieve these future goals, not limited only to improving the ship design, using biofuels or other alternative bunker fuels, shore power usage, energy recovery installations, Emission capture, engine optimising tools or software, voyage optimising means or software, sails or rotor sails and other future maritime zero-emission technologies becoming available.
Boxy Bulkers™ plan to run the purchased bulk carriers for short time like 2-10 years and therefore we are not expecting to do any ship scrapping or ship recycling in the short-medium term, but if this should be the case then we are committed to adhering to the ship recycling industry’s best practices with green recycling principles on an approved ship scrapping yard in accordance with the “Hong Kong” convension.
